Is it a Cold or the Flu?

June 01, 2022

As we experience one of the worst flu seasons in history across Australia, it’s important that you take the steps to reduce your risk of spreading the virus to others. But how do you even know if you have the flu? Perhaps it’s just a cold?

What is the difference between the two?

The flu and the common cold are both viral respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. While they often have similar symptoms, the flu tends to be more severe and lasts longer. It can include feeling feverish, having muscle aches or pains, feeling tired, and having coughing fits or headaches.

To help you identify the symptom differences, we've put together the below chart as guidance:Cold_and_Flu_Symptoms

It's important to keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive. Your symptoms and their severity can vary depending on your age and health status.

If you have any questions about your symptoms or what the best course of treatment is, we recommend you visit your regular pharmacist or doctor.
